About Self-Employed Tax Credit Program
"COVID-19 did more than make us sick, it took away our way of life. It took lives and businesses alike... we can't cure a sickness, but we are working to change our economic climate for the better... FOREVER."
In 2020, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was passed in an attempt to put money back into the hands of self-employed Americans, with the creation of Form 7202, Credits for Sick Leave and Family Leave for Certain Self-Employed Individuals. This allows eligible self-employed individuals who, due to COVID-19 are unable to work or telework for reasons relating to their own health or to care for a family member to claim refundable tax credits to offset their federal income tax.
Depending on your situation, the combined provisions of these acts could add up to a maximum of $32,220 per individual, distributed as a refund. To be clear, this credit is not a loan. Eligible applicants will receive a check in the mail or direct deposit from the IRS corresponding to their credit amount.

The FFRCA was written into law in 2020, creating the self-employed tax credit program. Since February 2021, a new form was created to help more self-employed individuals qualify to receive a tax credit (Form 7202).
In order to help employees/individuals cope with the losses coming as a result of the pandemic, the government issued paid sick leave days that could be used for reasons related to COVID. To account for these missed days for self-employed individuals, the government started offering a credit for the amount of work days missed due to COVID complications, such as...
Being unable to work due to federal, state, or local shutdown orders,
Needing to take care of family members with COVID, or
